Adorable, hip, and conveniently located 2 bedroom house near downtown Dartmouth, and only a 10 minute drive into Halifax!
My husband Jarrett and I enjoy travelling at various times throughout the year, and when we travel we enjoy renting out our sweet and completely furnished home to responsible and fun individuals, couples or families!
We are currently inviting people to contact us if they are interested in renting the house in October 2018, as well as throughout the 2019 Season.
We are looking for 2 week minimum rentals and are open to longer term arrangements. Dates and timing are flexible at this point.
This is a no party and no smoking property and we expect our guests to treat our space – home, property, neighbours, and community – respectfully! We also are looking for plant lovers, because as you’ll see in the pictures, we have an extensive indoor and outdoor garden that requires watering on the regular.
Our home has 2 bedrooms (one queen bedroom and one double bedroom) and 1 bathroom. We also have a third double foam mattress, so if you have 6 people, we can we set up the double sized foam mattress if you need it, in the double bed room, so that puts 4 people in one room together – get cozy! We also have a pack and play and two baby gates if you need them.
For Summer visitors, our home has ample outdoor space: 3 decks to choose from, hammocks, chairs, BBQ, and an amazing garden to enjoy. You can bike or walk to any of the nearby lakes for a swim, explore Dartmouth, or take the ferry over to Halifax for a day of fun on the waterfront!
The Fall is a fabulous time to visit the Maritimes, as the tourist season dies down by the end of September and it’s cooling off. This is my favourite time to do day trips to the Valley and the South Shore! Cape Breton is also beautiful this time of year, so if you are here for a longer stay, you can do a weekend trip to explore the area and do some hiking!
Winter and Spring are cozy in Nova Scotia. And when I say cozy what I actually mean is friggin cold. I’m not going to sugar coat it, we have some of the craziest winter weather in Canada. BUT if you are looking for a quiet place to hunker down for the winter season, get some work and writing done, or take a winter sabbatical, this is the place for you. If you are a visiting professor working at one of the various universities or colleges in the area, this could be a good fit for you as well! Finally, we are often away during the Christmas Holidays and are open to folks staying at our home over the holiday season, if you are planning to be in the area.
THE GREAT OUTDOORS
BEACHES: Conrad Beach [20 Minute Drive], is beforeLawrencetown Beach and is therefor one of the closest and nicest beaches to our home. It’s a fantastic beach for kiddos, as it’s sandy! Lawrencetown Beach [25 Minute Drive] is a rocky beach which is known for it’s great surfing. Martinique Beach [45 Minute Drive] is a gorgeous sandy beach, considered to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the province. Clam Harbour Beach [1.5 Hour Drive, shown in the pictures below] is amazing, is usually not crowded with people, and has a fantastic hike along the waterside. It’s one of my favourite beaches and the go-to-hike for my family.
BIKING: Nova Scotia has an amazing selection of biking trails and road biking opportunities all over the province. We are lucky in Dartmouth to have access to both trail and road biking opportunities without having to get in our cars to get started. There are also plenty of gorgeous biking spots just outside of Dartmouth. We have a fantastic trail system, the Salt Marsh Trail and the Atlantic View Trail, just a 15 minute drive from the city, and the South Shore (from Hubbards to Chester, Mahone Bay and Lunenburg) is one of the most beautiful places to bike, in my opinion! Halifax and Dartmouth also have quite a few biking groups where you can do drop in rides on weekdays and on the weekends.
HIKING: Both the mainland and Cape Breton have fantastic hiking opportunities. My favourites, and the closest ones to where we are located are the trail systems out at Clam Harbour Beach and in Taylor Head Provincial Park. Simply stunning!
We have two corgis who are adorable but shed like the dickens. We clean the house super well for visitors, BUT please note that this house would not be suitable for someone allergic to pets since it’s 100% impossible to remove every single hair from the house! Pesky buggers, it’s a good thing they’re really cute.
In 2018/2019 we are currently renovating our basement – guests may need to use the washer & dryer which is located in the construction area, so please use caution and common sense when accessing the area downstairs. The kitchen is also under partial renovation, but is completely safe and fine to use, as none of the counter space or appliances are affected in any way.
We live in Southdale, which is full of young families, and is NOT a partying neighbourhood. If you don’t have a car, we are right on the bus route, a 20 minute walk to the ferry to Halifax, and only a short 10 minute drive into the city, Halifax.
